Eat in Peace is 5 years old !

The month of April marks 5 years since I began my private practice, Eat in Peace, to support people in their recovery from eating disorders, disordered eating, and chronic and lifelong dieting.

It started as an idea to start a Facebook page while on maternity leave. Followed by deciding to see a few clients while still on maternity leave from my “proper job”. At this time, my daughter was 6 months old. Was that the perfect time to start a private practice? Probably not? But, I was motivated to, and I have discovered that for me, I need to ride these waves of motivation. You never know when the wave will break!

So I sat on my couch, developed and put together all my forms, registered my business and details with Medicare, developed my website from scratch (!), found an office space, organized a day of childcare for my daughter, reached out to peers for support, and said let’s do this. Ok, I didn’t really say that. It was more like… Um, I think I’m ready to do this… maybe?

It wasn’t until I realized this month that it has been 5 years, and sat down to write this content, that I realize the amount of work (physical, emotional and psychological!) it took to begin but also maintain it over the 5 years. It’s always felt like I am doing everything on a whim, minimal planning, and flying by the seat of my pants. I’m also really good at not giving myself credit, not centering myself and flying under the radar.

I also understand the privilege which enables me to do this work, and the fact that I can do this work when others struggle for their voices to be heard. I am grateful for my clients putting their trust in me. They give me the greatest gift of being able to learn and grow from them. I have also met the most amazing people and friends working in Eating Disorders , Health at Every Size and the Non-Diet Approach. Many have had my back, and given me a chance.

So now I will celebrate all of this. And looking forward to growing further over the next 5 years. I’d love for you to join me!

2019 appointments :)

2019 is underway!

I had some time off from July last year, and am now back in the office supporting people to heal their relationship with food. If you have an Eating Disorder, disordered eating, or just feeling pretty stressed and anxious about eating and your body, I’d love to help!

I have appointments available on Saturdays and Monday afternoons in Camberwell, Melbourne. To contact me, you can send me a booking enquiry, or schedule a 15 minute free call.< Home

Dietitian in Camberwell – new rooms!

I have just relocated to new rooms not far down the road from my old one.

Although it is inconvenient to have to relocate, especially over the christmas and new year period, the positive thing is I get to utilise these beautiful counselling rooms at Therapy FiveHT.

Ahhh, couldn’t you just curl up and have a nice rest? I could! But don’t worry,  I won’t, I’d rather listen to my amazing clients talk about  about their food and eating experiences… and help them reconnect with food and their bodies.

I have not disappeared – Like us on Facebook!

dietitian melbourneI have been a bit quiet on the website blog – no new recipes or stories. Besides all my good intentions, it is really hard to give every area of my life the attention it really needs! I do however have a whole lot of draft posts waiting for some love, and I hope to start posting a bit more regularly soon.

As always, I continue to see clients in Camberwell for nutritional counselling of eating disorders, disordered eating and assisting people to learn the Non-Diet Approach skills for health and wellbeing. Click here to make an appointment. I also post things on Facebook, usually re-posts of interesting articles from colleagues and bloggers. I recommend you get on it and click Like – and make sure you let me know what else you would like to see from me!

Appointments now in Chadstone

I am now taking appointments on a Monday within the Business Development Company, in Chadstone Shopping Centre.
The office is lovely, and is easy to find… The closest parking is the JB Hi Fi/AMF/Hoyts carpark, you enter the lift between JB HiFi and Temt and go up to Level 2. Turn right and the waiting area for the office is straight ahead. The office is shared with a psychologist and counsellor.

My favourite thing to do at Chadstone is take my 3 year old to the Dumpling cafe in the food court… We usually share a vegetarian curry laksa! Modelling in action – he has always copied how I eat my noodle soup… Putting the noodles on the spoon to eat them. We fight over the egg noodles, and he enjoys the tofu as well (which we fight over too… They only ever put 2 pieces in!). Luckily, he also likes the carrot and mushrooms they use.. (I can take or leave them!). We make a good team.

I am yet to try the new Vietnamese Pho place in the food court, but will have plenty of opportunities to, no doubt!

Looking forward to meeting all of you, and helping you to eat more peacefully and with joy.
